poor kingsley

our poor little king had to have surgery last thursday (nov 14th). he has always had issues with his back left leg but it was usually after he had been doing a lot of running and he was fine the  next day. well right after we moved we noticed that he was ALWAYS limping and sometimes only using 3 of his legs. we iced it, gave him meds, and tried to keep him from running but no matter what he was still limping. we finally decided to take him to the vet to see what was going on and wouldn’t you know… he tore his acl. we debated back and forth whether or not to do the surgery… it was $2500 after all… but if we were to just let it go he would always limp and his leg would eventually get arthritis. but seeing as king is 2 and a half we couldn’t let him live the rest of his life as a gimp!

so the morning of the surgery tony took king and i stayed home and watched luna freak out. i think at first she was just more mad that king got to go for a car ride and she didn't get to go but as the day went on she realized that “hey, where is king?” thankfully my mom was home most of day and let luna follow her around so she could have some company. what breaks my heart is i know that king hates the vet and i was so hoping the surgeon would come early in the morning so at least he could be high on meds all day and not think about his awful parents dropping him off at this terrible place… but no… they did the surgery around 4:30… our poor kingsley had to sit and wait around all day scared half to death about where he was and where we were… poor boy!

so during the middle of the surgery i get a call from the vet and his first words were "so... we have an issue." WHAT?! you can't call me during surgery and say that!! thankfully nothing was wrong with king but he was mentioning how kings kneecap was out of place and he thought it was due to the torn acl but come to find out he had a ligament that was out of whack. they basically just needed our permission to move the ligament to get his kneecap back in place and to charge us the extra $500-700. why not right? we are already in it this far... thankfully the surgeon decided not to charge us the extra cuz he wasn't sure how necessary it really was.

so we were clear to pick him up the next morning and after waiting for an hour at the vet and going over everything i finally got to see my boy (not to mention while i was waiting i could hear him whining… L) but he was so stressed, drugged, tired that he was definitely not the same pup. not to mention he could barely walk. so i took him out to my car while i finished the paperwork and when i got back he was shaking, whining, not to mention he had peed everywhere. i felt so bad for him. so i covered him with a blankie and he finally laid down and relaxed a little on the way home. the instant i stopped the car tho he freaked out, not to mention when i got him inside whenever i touched my car keys he would start whining and freaking out. almost as if he was terrified to be alone again. i finally sat down by him and he went right to sleep.
tony got off work early so i could go back to work and someone could be with king. i swear he slept for 2 days straight! i bet he didn’t sleep a wink the night at the vets.
sadly now he has 2 months of recovery... not to mention meds 3 times a day (which seem to have killed his appetite for the first week, plus he is so stubborn and won't swallow his pills so its always this big dramatic event just to give them to him with choking, foaming, and evil eyes... haha), he can't walk up stairs (which if you recall we live in my parents basement... meaning we have to carry him- or half carry him- up and down the stairs at least 4 times a day), no off-leash activity, plus when we are gone he has to wear the cone of shame.
thankfully it seems like king has forgiven us... he is wagging his tail, eating, giving lots of kisses and cuddling with us! now we just need a quick recovery so he can run and play again with his sister!
